Lighting Is 60% of a Room. Here's How to Get It Right
6 min read
Layers, temperature, and the one mistake most homeowners make with recessed lights.
Every well-lit room has three layers: ambient (the room's baseline), task (over the counter, desk, mirror) and accent (the artwork, the plant, the architecture).
Miss one and the room feels flat. Get all three, at the same color temperature (2700Kâ3000K for residential), and the space feels designed even when it isn't.
The recessed-light mistake: spacing them on a grid instead of over the things you actually want to see. Light the counter, not the ceiling.
